The Wrap: Snickas vs. Milton Chiefs

Live by the sword and die by it too. Last week Snickas capitalized on their power play chances but this week they couldn’t get anything going with the man advantage and even gave up two shorthanded goals. The Milton Chiefs snapped Snickas 5 game unbeaten streak with a 4-2 win.

Like last weeks game last nights game was filled with minor penalties. 16 in all for both teams, Snickas even found themselves shorthanded for almost 5 minutes straight; 3 of those 5 were spent two men down. With the referee’s trying to call a game similar to the NHL the boys in tan are really going to have to crack down on their stick work.

For two periods last night it looked like it was going to be a goaltending dual as both netminders made great save after great save, but as the game went into the third period all the penalty killing finally caught up with Snickas and the Chiefs put the hammer down. “It’s tough when you spend so much energy killing penalties” said Kirk Burgess after the game. “They just seemed to have more jump in the third. We pushed really hard to take the lead but I let in a weak one and it was over”
Snickas did in fact lead for a short time in the second period 2-1 on David Mammoliti’s first of the season but the Chiefs quickly responded and reeled off 3 unanswered to take the game 4-2. Captain Chris Morton scored Snickas first goal and defencemen Pete Hogan picked up his first point of the season, registering an assist on Mammo's second period goal.

Next Week Snickas hit the ice against HSBC Banks; the action gets underway at 10pm.
